Eating With The Seasons

Adjusting how we eat in accordance with the seasons helps to achieve optimal health, wellness and improvement in our digestion and daily functions.

 

As we move into cooler weather, our ability to break down cold, raw food decreases. It's time to hang up the salads and smoothies and begin focusing on cooked vegetables, stews and soups. Slow cookers are a great way to go right now. If you are still having summery nights, toss the veggies on the grill for a few!

 

This is also the time of year when our bodies begin to stash protein and you may notice a craving for more protein, a slow down in your workout or muscle aches and pains. Increasing your protein and water intake will go a long way right now. If you are a meat eater, focus on bone broths, stews and other easy to digest and blood rich meat. If you are a vegetarian, now is the time to increase rich foods like beets, beans, lentils and quinoa.
